At North Star Guidance Center, we offer medication management services in conjunction with counseling. For some, medication can be a useful adjunct to therapy. Initial psychiatric diagnostic evaluations are 50 minutes in length. Follow up medication management appointments are often 25-30 minutes in length. Dr.Amy E. Lister, is board certified to treat children, adolescents and adults. She is on site on Fridays from 9 am - 5 pm. At North Star Guidance Center, establishing a trusting relationship with a counselor is the first step. to an internal referral to our medication management program. If a client would like to motivate a medication evaluation it can then be coordinated with the approval and assistance of their primary clinician. Ongoing participation in counseling with an on site therapist is an integral part of the medication management program.
Why medication alone is not our philosophy:
Enhanced communication and exchange between client, counselor and MD provides a team approach to healing. Many things both internally and externally can impact our physiology, energy and balance. Medication can be a powerful influence and deserves significant respect. We believe that anything that has the power to heal has the power to hurt and by allowing more time for someone to get to know you and your environment will allow for a more natural and enduring approach to healing.
Counselors as Case Managers
Medication is a valuable and useful treatment. There are times however when medication or lifestyle can sustain or mask symptoms. Our counselors partner with clients and prescribers to assess potential needs, facilitate appointments and troubleshoot ecological barriers. This comprehensive continuum of care is an evidenced based practice that fosters trusting relationships, personalized behavioral health care and in turn, lasting change.
